What to expect
- Writing a dissertation:You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation in the rapidly growing field of digital marketing. Your research will focus on business problems or groundbreaking innovations arising from developments in information technology. By applying empirical, “big” data and quantitative methods, your research contributes to better marketing decisions and more desirable outcomes for both managers and consumers. - Learning from top researchers:You will be getting your own research career off to a great start by working together with renowned researchers in the marketing field and learning from them. Recurring PhD seminars will help you to improve your ongoing research projects.
- Teaching and teaching support:You will be planning and teaching courses in the field of social media and digital marketing yourself.
- Student support:You will be available to answer students’ questions, provide feedback on seminar papers, and act as a co-advisor for bachelor theses.
- Organizational and administrative support
- You will be working to advance research in digital marketing together with an experienced and truly international team. Look forward to a welcoming atmosphere and open-minded discussions.
- Building up a personal network:You will be using the pre-doc phase to create your own professional network for the future.
What you have to offer
- Degree:We are looking for applicants with a strong academic record, i.e., an outstanding master degree (or equivalent qualification) in economics, management, information systems, business engineering, mathematics, physics, statistics, or computer science (or a related field) with a strong focus on quantitative topics such as (quantitative) marketing, econometrics, operations research, finance that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
- Data analysis:You have very good prior knowledge of statistics and empirical research methods. This includes analyzing data using econometric techniques (e.g., with R) AND/OR machine learning skills (e.g., using PyTorch).
- Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods:Experience in teaching, or in using multimedia teaching and learning formats is an asset (e.g., as student assistant or tutor). You should be motivated to continuously improve your didactic skills with WU’s qualification program.
- Experience in digital or social media marketing:Experience in digital or social media marketing (e.g., through internships, student jobs, or working on one’s own website) is beneficial.
- Communication skills:For research purposes, we expect you to have an excellent oral and written command of English.
- Working style:We look for enthusiastic, curious team players, who are passionate about digital and social media marketing and research. You work independently, show initiative, are willing to take on responsibility, and have good self-organization skills.

Our goal is to provide students and staff with safe attendance at WU. Therefore, proof of a complete Covid 19 vaccination is a prerequisite for employment. In all other cases, employment at WU is only possible if the willingness to obtain the vaccination against Covid-19 as soon as possible is expressed in the application procedure. A written declaration to this effect must be signed when signing the employment contract.
